Privacy Policy
RaceMetric is a local-first karting, race-weekend, fitness, and driver-performance tracking app by JH43 Racing.
Who Is Responsible For RaceMetric
RaceMetric is operated by Paul Hudson as a JH43 Racing project. For privacy questions or requests, contact racemetricapp@gmail.com.
RaceMetric does not require an account and the operator does not ordinarily receive the information you save locally in the app. When you contact support or deliberately share information with the operator, that information will be handled only to respond to your request, investigate the issue, keep an appropriate support record, or comply with a legal obligation.
Summary
RaceMetric is designed to work without an account. The app stores your driver, session, race-weekend, logger, telemetry, session-note media, onboard video, fitness, circuit, and settings data locally on your device.
RaceMetric does not currently use third-party advertising, third-party analytics, cross-app tracking, or a developer-operated cloud account system.
RaceMetric may download read-only public category track-record reference data from RaceMetric's public GitHub data feed. This keeps track profiles accurate without requiring an app update, and it does not upload your RaceMetric data.
When event weather is enabled, RaceMetric sends the selected circuit coordinates and event date to Open-Meteo to request a forecast. It does not send your name, session history, fitness data, or notes.
Information Stored In The App
RaceMetric may store information you enter or choose inside the app, including:
- Driver profile details, display preferences, dashboard logo, and driver image.
- Kart sessions, lap and sector times, logger imports, telemetry, GPS traces, setup notes, kart class, tyres, pressures, gearing, engine details, conditions, and race results.
- Race weekends, planned sessions, reminders, notes, and checklist items.
- Circuit details, custom circuit locations, track notes, and circuit history.
- Simulator sessions.
- Workouts, weight entries, reaction-time history, step goal, and daily step display.
- Friend or rival names and comparison lap times when you choose to record them.
- Session notebook entries and photos you choose to attach.
- Onboard footage you choose to attach, plus the local synchronization point used to align it with logger data.
- Engine runtime, rebuild targets, maintenance-alert state, local notification read state, and reminder settings.
- Short-lived cached circuit weather forecasts.
- Coach videos or media you choose from your photo library.
- Full backup JSON files when you choose to export them.
This information is stored locally on your device unless you choose to share or export it.
Why Information Is Used
Information stored locally is used to provide the features you choose, such as session records, analysis, reminders, media attachments, backups, fitness views, nearby circuits, and weather forecasts. RaceMetric is designed to minimise information leaving the device.
Where the operator receives personal information through a support request, it is normally handled because it is necessary to answer the request and pursue the legitimate interest of supporting and improving RaceMetric. Information may also be handled where necessary to comply with a legal obligation. You should not send health information, information about a child, logger files, photographs, or videos to support unless it is genuinely needed to resolve the issue and you have authority to share it.
Permissions
Location
RaceMetric may ask for foreground location permission to help save circuit/session location context or support nearby circuit features. When event weather is enabled, coordinates for the selected circuit may be sent to Open-Meteo to provide its forecast. RaceMetric does not use background location tracking.
Motion And Fitness
RaceMetric may ask for Motion & Fitness permission to show your daily step count on the dashboard. Steps are used only for your own in-app activity view and do not affect the driver rating.
Photo Library And Videos
RaceMetric may ask for photo-library access so you can choose a dashboard logo, driver image, coach video, session-note photo, or onboard session footage. RaceMetric uses the media item you select and does not scan your full library. Selected session photos and videos may be copied into RaceMetric's local app storage so they remain attached to the saved session.
Files
RaceMetric may open a document picker so you can import supported logger files, such as native UniPro .uni sessions and UniPro TSV/CSV exports. The app reads the file you select so it can preview and store available laps, sectors, GPS, speed, RPM and sensor channels, then create or update a RaceMetric session. A retained local copy may be used for later session comparison and analysis.
Notifications
RaceMetric may ask for notification permission so it can schedule local reminders for race weekends and planned sessions, and one-time alerts for driver-set engine rebuild targets. These reminders and alerts are for app functionality, not advertising.
Onboard Video And Session Media
If you attach onboard footage, RaceMetric stores the selected video locally and saves the synchronization point you choose. This lets the app display lap time, speed, RPM, delta and track position alongside the video. RaceMetric does not upload the footage to a developer-operated server.
Session-note photos and coach reference videos are also stored locally. You can remove attached media from the relevant session or coaching entry inside the app.
Sharing And Export
RaceMetric includes share/export features for summaries and local backups. When you use these features, RaceMetric opens your device share sheet so you can choose where the information goes.
Only share or export information to people and services you trust.
Public Reference Data
RaceMetric may connect to a public GitHub-hosted JSON file to refresh category track-record reference data shown in the Tracks area. This request is for read-only app content. RaceMetric does not add your session, logger, location, fitness, photo, profile, or settings data to this request.
Weather Forecasts
Event weather is optional and can be turned off in Setup. When enabled, RaceMetric requests forecast data from Open-Meteo using the selected circuit coordinates and event date. Forecast responses are cached on the device for a short period and may be included in local race-weekend reminders.
Open-Meteo receives the internet request, which may include network information such as an IP address. Its handling of that request is governed by Open-Meteo's own privacy and service terms.
Data Collection And Tracking
RaceMetric does not send your saved RaceMetric records to a developer-operated server.
RaceMetric does not sell personal data.
RaceMetric does not use third-party advertising SDKs.
RaceMetric does not use third-party analytics SDKs.
RaceMetric does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
Data Deletion
You can edit or delete many entries inside RaceMetric. Removing the app from your device may also remove locally stored RaceMetric data, imported logger files, session photos, and attached videos. If you have exported a backup or shared data outside the app, you are responsible for managing those copies.
Locally stored information remains on the device until you delete the relevant entry, erase the app's information, or remove the app, subject to the device's own backup behaviour. Support emails and related correspondence are retained only for as long as reasonably needed to answer the request, maintain an appropriate support history, resolve disputes, or meet legal requirements.
Children And Young Drivers
RaceMetric may be used by young karting drivers. Its information is private and local by default, and its optional permissions should be enabled only when needed. A parent or guardian should supervise a child's use of the app, especially when adding names or fitness information, enabling location, sharing summaries, exporting backups, choosing media, or contacting support.
Do not send a child's personal information, photograph, video, precise location, or logger file to support unless a parent or guardian has decided it is necessary and has authority to provide it. RaceMetric does not provide a public profile, social feed, behavioural advertising, or developer-operated child account.
Your Privacy Rights
Because RaceMetric's saved records ordinarily remain only on your device, the operator cannot access, correct, export, or delete those records for you. The app provides controls for editing, deleting, sharing, and exporting supported information locally.
If you have sent personal information directly to RaceMetric support, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection where the relevant data-protection law provides those rights. Contact racemetricapp@gmail.com. You may also raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Third-Party Services
Optional weather requests are sent to Open-Meteo, and the app may request public reference-time data hosted by GitHub. Those providers receive normal internet-request information, which can include an IP address and device or network metadata. Their own privacy terms govern their handling of that information. Links to external circuit, timing, mapping, or source websites are provided for reference; visiting them is outside RaceMetric and may allow those sites to collect information under their own policies.
Changes To This Policy
This policy may be updated as RaceMetric changes. If future versions add accounts, cloud sync, analytics, or other data collection, this policy and the App Store privacy answers must be updated before release.
